Recently Eilat opened its latest attraction, a musical, dancing fountain very much like those you can see in Prague, Las Vegas, Singapore and Barcelona. Eilat’s new fountain is the largest in Israel; the pool at the base of the fountain covers 1,500 meters and the water jets are illuminated by 400 colored LED lights. The water is sprayed up into the air by 350 water jets and the water reaches heights of 10-30 meters. The music played includes a rock medley, famous film tracks and popular songs as well as Israeli music. The sound system used with Eilat’s audio-visual fountain show has never been used before with a municipal musical fountain anywhere else in the world. The technology and special effects used in creating the fountain are innovative. The Eilat municipality has taken the concept one step further and plan to provide a mobile phone app which visitors can download. With the new app visitors will be able to control the fountain, making it rise and fall as they please.
The fountain is located at Dereh Yotem, Gan Binnyamin Central Park in the center of the city outside the triangular building that houses the IMAX Theatre and alongside a skate park (also a new attraction). The fountain performs on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 8, 9 and 10pm and the show lasts 15 minutes. There are stone seats around the fountain and also plenty of grass to sit on. During the day when the fountain is not performing with music and lights visitors can cool off by the fountain where they will be able to play in the water. The best thing about Eilat’s new fountain is that it is free.
